There is a Gap

The country’s resources for mental health treatment and supportive housing are inadequate to meet the growing demand. Currently, there are no group homes or community-type settings in Montgomery County where residents can learn to live and function independently while receiving necessary treatments within the same community setting. This gap highlights the urgent need for facilities that combine housing with integrated mental health support. 

  • 10.7% of the world suffers from some sort of mental illness.

  • 322 million people worldwide live with depression; 40 million Americans suffer from anxiety.

  • 1 in 5 Americans suffer from a mental illness.

  • Almost 6 in 10 people with mental illness get no treatment or medication.

  • About 1 in 4 American adults suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year, and one in ten will suffer from a depressive illness, such as major depression or bipolar disorder.

  • Women experience depression at roughly twice the rate of men.

  • Almost half of Americans will experience an episode of mental illness in their lives.
